1970 Profile: Matt Snell

Fullback
No. 41
Ohio State
"The 29-year-old fullback out of Ohio State has proven himself to be one of those number one draft choices who turn out every bit as good as you expected.
Last season he became the workhorse of the Jet offense, which suddenly became running-play oriented. He carried the ball 191 times for 695 yards and was ranked seventh in the league in rushing. He was the first-team fullback on the All-AFL teams and was on the second team on the combined AFL-NFL All-Pro squad.
Weeb Ewbank calls him 'the complete ballplayer who is the best pass protector in football.' He is also consistent: he has finished among the top ten in rushing every season except 1967 when he missed most of the season with a knee injury.
Like so many ballplayers, Matt has become interested in the stock brokerage business and now commutes in the off-season to the Manhattan office of a Wall Street firm."

-Brenda and Jack Zanger, Pro Football 1970

"Matt was a fullback, end and halfback at Ohio State, won All-Big Ten and All-America honors and played on the Big Ten title squad in 1961. He also played in the North-South Game and for the College All-Stars in Chicago.
The all-time leading rusher in New York history, Matt was the AFL Rookie of the Year in 1964 and MVP of the Jets in 1965. He scored the only Jet touchdown in the 1969 Super Bowl."
